AFI — the American Film Institute — sent around as email today plugging their YouTube channel. It’s a place where you could easily waste an afternoon.
Steve Martin Opens The AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute To Tom Hanks
For the most part, the videos are clips from the TV tribute series; largely famous actors singing the praises of other famous actors with a director thrown in every now and then. There are some entertaining clips, some over-botoxed faces and a good dose of Hollywood schmaltz.
I noticed that AFI is part of a YouTube Nonprofit program. There are buttons on the channel to allow you to make a donation to the organization via Google checkout (YouTube belongs to Google, so it’s not surprising that they use Google Checkout instead of PayPal).
AFI is also on Twitter, but their tweets are entirely self-promotional mostly links to their videos — so they hardly seem worth the follow: Twitter.com/AmericanFilm.
